Nationalist and independence movements flooded the Baltics in the late 1980s. On th 50th anniversery of the signing of the secret Soviet-Nazi pact, one million Latvians, Lithuanians, and Estonians joined hands to symbolically represent their united wish for the independence of the baltic states.
